Washington, February 2026 — The U.S. Coast Guard has taken delivery of the first of two Gulfstream G700 Long Range Command and Control Aircraft (LRCCA), marking a significant milestone in modernizing its executive air transport and command capabilities.
The aircraft, acquired under a sole-source contract awarded in October 2025 to Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, is part of a two-plane contract valued at approximately $172 million, with a total potential cost approaching $200 million depending on configuration and support services.
On January 29, 2026, the Coast Guard formally received the first G700, which has since begun operational use including official travel by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem and other senior officials.
The new G700 aircraft replace aging Gulfstream V and G550-based platforms that have served the LRCCA mission for decades. According to Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at DHS, the upgraded jets are “part of a planned and long-needed update” to ensure mission readiness, safety, and secure command and control communications.
With its ultra-long range and advanced systems, the G700 offers increased performance, avionics, and cabin flexibility compared to older aircraft. It supports global travel and high-security communication requirements for senior DHS and Coast Guard leadership, crucial for continuity of government and contingency operations.
Controversy and Oversight
The acquisition drew criticism from Congressional Democrats and watchdogs who raised concerns about the timing and cost during a federal government shutdown and questioned whether the purchase represented an appropriate use of taxpayer funds.
What’s Next?
The second G700 in the contract is expected to be delivered by the end of fiscal year 2026, continuing the Coast Guard’s efforts to modernize its air command and control fleet.
