Emirates Becomes the First Airline to Deploy the Boeing 777-300ERSF for Cargo Operations
- The first passenger-to-freighter converted aircraft joins Emirates’ rapidly expanding cargo fleet.
- The Boeing 777-300ERSF is the sixth new freighter to enter service with Emirates SkyCargo since March 2026.
- The airline will operate five passenger-to-freighter converted aircraft by the end of 2027.
Dubai, July 7, 2026 – Emirates has reached a major milestone in the expansion of its cargo fleet by becoming the first airline to place the Boeing 777-300ERSF, a passenger aircraft converted into a freighter, into commercial service. The aircraft (registration A6-EBK) will operate its first commercial flight between Hong Kong and Dubai, carrying more than 100 tonnes of cargo.
The converted Boeing 777-300ERSF offers a payload capacity of 100 tonnes and a cargo volume of 811 cubic metres, representing a 25% increase in cargo volume compared with the factory-built Boeing 777F freighter. With the capacity to accommodate 47 pallet positions, the converted aircraft provides 10 additional pallet positions compared with the standard Boeing 777F. It is therefore particularly well suited to transporting high-volume cargo such as e-commerce shipments. This sector currently accounts for approximately 20% of global air cargo tonnage, with continued growth expected in the coming years.
Badr Abbas, Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, said:
“The operational entry into service of Emirates’ first converted Boeing 777-300ERSF marks another important milestone in the expansion of our fleet and further strengthens our operational agility. We are optimizing our assets by converting older Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft to meet the growing demand for air cargo capacity, enabling us to move goods rapidly around the world.”
“Combined with our growing fleet of factory-built Boeing 777 Freighters, this aircraft has already enabled us to expand our global cargo network from just over 40 destinations last February to 62 destinations today, with further growth planned. This allows us to offer our international customers scalable cargo capacity together with outstanding flexibility and connectivity for freight moving to and from our Dubai hub.”
An ambitious fleet and network expansion strategy
This converted Boeing 777-300ERSF is the sixth new freighter to join the Emirates SkyCargo fleet since March 2026, following the introduction of five factory-built Boeing 777 Freighters.
As part of its ambitious growth strategy, Emirates SkyCargo will also take delivery of five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, together with another converted Boeing 777-300ERSF, by December 2026. During 2027, the airline will add three more converted Boeing 777-300ERSFs to its fleet.
The continued expansion of Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet and network reaffirms the airline’s commitment to playing a leading role in global trade by offering businesses new destinations while strengthening connectivity with major production centres already integrated into its worldwide network, which spans six continents.
