Airbus opens second A320 final assembly line in Toulouse

Airbus inaugurates a second final assembly line for the A320 Family in Toulouse

Toulouse, France, 15 June 2026 – Airbus has inaugurated a modernised second final assembly line for the A320 Family at the Jean-Luc Lagardère site in Toulouse. The official opening ceremony was chaired by Guillaume Faury, Airbus Chief Executive Officer, and Lars Wagner, Head of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, in the presence of the French Minister for Transport, Philippe Tabarot, as well as Airbus executives and several hundred employees.

Bringing this new A320 Family assembly line to life here in Toulouse is a source of pride for all of us and a remarkable achievement for our commercial aircraft teams,” said Guillaume Faury, Airbus Chief Executive Officer. “This site provides the flexibility and capacity needed to meet strong market demand, particularly for the A321neo, and to support our ramp-up trajectory towards a production rate of 75 A320 Family aircraft per month. This line, operating in coordination with our assembly sites in Hamburg, Mobile and Tianjin, supports our commitment to delivering aircraft that meet the highest quality standards to our customers worldwide.

To support the A320 Family production ramp-up trajectory, and following recent extensions in Mobile and Tianjin, the opening of this second Toulouse line materialises Airbus’ strategy to operate ten final assembly lines worldwide, operational in 2026, for the entire A320 Family. This global industrial network is distributed across four international sites, comprising four lines in Hamburg (Germany), two in Mobile (United States), two in Tianjin (China), and two in Toulouse (France).

Located alongside the first line inaugurated in July 2023 in the former A380 building, known as Jean-Luc Lagardère, this facility optimises existing industrial infrastructure while integrating digital control systems, automated logistics, and robotics in order to streamline flows and improve workstation ergonomics.

While the first line already employs around 700 people, this second line will gradually increase its production rate until reaching full capacity, ultimately bringing the total workforce of both lines at the Jean-Luc Lagardère site to nearly 1,500 employees.

About the Jean-Luc Lagardère site

  • Built between 2002 and 2004 for the A380 programme, the site covers an area of 50 hectares.
  • The two A320 Family lines are located in the central hangar, which measures 490 metres in length, 250 metres in width, and 46 metres in height. This hangar has a surface area of 122,000 m², equivalent to 500 tennis courts.

As stated at the end of April during the presentation of financial results for the first quarter of 2026, Airbus expects to reach a production rate of between 70 and 75 A320 Family aircraft per month by the end of 2027, before stabilising at a rate of 75.

As of the end of May, the A320 Family order backlog stands at 7,499 aircraft, including 5,615 A321neo.
