EU Court Removes Taxonomy Exclusion for Business Aviation, Opening Door to Broader Financing Access
AeroMorning – John Smith — 26 June 2026
The EU General Court has annulled a Commission interpretative application of EU sustainable finance taxonomy (the European Union classification system defining which economic activities can be considered environmentally sustainable for investment purposes) rules that resulted in business aviation being effectively excluded from eligibility, marking a significant shift in how the sector may be treated by European financial markets.
The ruling, issued on 18 June 2026 in Luxembourg, removes the legal basis for an automatic exclusion of business aviation from EU taxonomy consideration and requires a reassessment of how non-scheduled aviation is classified under EU sustainability criteria.
While the decision does not classify business aviation as sustainable, it removes a categorical barrier that had prevented the sector from being systematically considered for taxonomy-aligned financing.
