AeroMorning –John Smith — September 30, 2026
In an official press release dated September 30, 2026,
titled “FLYONE Armenia orders two Airbus A321neo,” Airbus announced that
the airline had finalised a firm order for two Airbus A321neo aircraft. The
order converts a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) initially announced during
French President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit to Yerevan on May 5, 2026.
Fleet Acquisition and Strategic Shift
A Milestone Direct Order: These two A321neos
represent FLYONE Armenia’s first-ever aircraft order placed directly with
Airbus.
Past Fleet Model: The airline has so far built its
fleet through a combination of aircraft acquisitions, operating leases, wet
leases and ACMI arrangements. Specific examples include:
- A320s
acquired from AviaAM Leasing. - Aircraft
leased from major lessors such as Avolon and Aircastle. - Aircraft
from sister airline FLYONE Moldova and wet-leased capacity from external
operators such as Avion Express.
Significance: While leased aircraft may have
originally been ordered by third parties, these two A321neos mark a shift
toward securing new-generation aircraft directly from the manufacturer for
fleet development.
Aircraft Configuration
Engines: Powered by CFM International LEAP-1A
engines, a choice initially disclosed by FLYONE on July 23, 2026.
Cabin Layout: Configured with 239 seats in an
all-economy, single-class layout, the A321neo will provide significantly more
seating capacity than an A320 while keeping the airline within the same
single-aisle aircraft family.
Efficiency: According to Airbus, the A320 Family has
accumulated more than 20,000 orders worldwide, while its latest-generation
variants offer at least 20% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared
with previous-generation single-aisle aircraft.
Airline Overview and Network Expansion
Company Profile: Founded in 2021 and based at Zvartnots
International Airport in Yerevan, FLYONE Armenia operates scheduled and charter
services to destinations in Europe, the Middle East and the CIS.
Fleet and Passenger Scale: In July 2026, the airline
reported a fleet of 12 Airbus A320-family aircraft and more than 26
destinations. Airbus’s September 30 release referred to 11 aircraft. The
airline has reported carrying more than three million passengers since the
start of operations through 2025.
New 2026 Routes: The airline added services to Amsterdam,
Vienna, Alicante, Samara, Kazan, Batumi and Almaty. The Yerevan–Almaty route
was launched on June 12, 2026, with two weekly flights. In May, FLYONE Armenia
also launched a Gyumri–Sochi service, complementing its daily Yerevan–Sochi
operation.
Published Network: The network encompasses European
destinations including Paris, Nice, Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Brussels, Vienna,
Alicante, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Thessaloniki and Heraklion, alongside
destinations in the Middle East and CIS.
