Wheere: the French deeptech aiming to reinvent indoor GPS
Interview with Mr. Kévin Rutankabandi – Space Program Manager
AeroMorning – June 11, 2026
Company overview
Wheere is a French deeptech startup specialized in metric-level geolocation both indoors and outdoors. The company was founded in 2020 in Montpellier by two engineers: Pierre-Arnaud Coquelin, a graduate of École Polytechnique and former entrepreneur in sports tracking, and Antoine Carrabin, an engineer from CentraleSupélec.
The company was first incubated within the ecosystem of CNES and the ESA Business Incubation Centre before coming out of stealth in 2023 with a significant fundraising round. Wheere is developing a breakthrough technology aimed at solving one of GPS’s main weaknesses: the lack of reliable coverage inside buildings, underground, or in highly disturbed environments.
In 2023, the company raised €11 million from several investors, including Blast.club, Sofilaro, Bpifrance, and several French business angels.
Wheere employs around thirty people and still has limited revenue, which is consistent with a deeptech company still in the industrialization and commercial validation phase.
Among the executives and contributors to the project are also experts from the space and defense sectors, notably former employees of Thales Alenia Space, which explains the dual terrestrial and space orientation of the project.
