April 3, 2026 — Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. has officially agreed to acquire Air Alliance GmbH, a Germany‑based aerospace company that has served as an authorized Pilatus sales and service partner since 2014. The move reflects Pilatus’s strategic effort to deepen its presence in the European aviation market and enhance its customer support infrastructure across the region.
Air Alliance, founded in 1993 and headquartered in Germany, specializes in sales, technical support, flight training, and aircraft services for Pilatus’s key aircraft models, notably the PC‑12 turboprop and the PC‑24 Super Versatile Jet. The firm also operates a professional aircraft management program and holds an air operator certificate (AOC), although its ambulance flight subsidiary Unicair GmbH is NOT included in the acquisition and will continue independently.
The transaction is still subject to regulatory approvals — including from the German Federal Aviation Authority — and financial terms have not been publicly disclosed. Approximately 120 Air Alliance employees will remain with the company under Pilatus ownership, and current Managing Director René Petersen will continue to lead operations as CEO.
Why Pilatus Made the Acquisition
There are several interconnected reasons behind this strategic purchase:
1. Reinforcing Market Presence in Europe
Europe — especially Germany and Austria — represents one of Pilatus’s most important markets for both the PC‑12 and PC‑24 aircraft. By bringing an established sales and service network into direct ownership, Pilatus aims to strengthen brand visibility, simplify customer relations, and support deeper market penetration throughout the region.
Pilatus Chairman Hansueli Loosli emphasized that the acquisition allows the company to leverage synergies between manufacturing, sales, and operations while “moving even closer” to its customers.
2. Enhancing Customer Support and Services
Owning Air Alliance outright enables Pilatus to unify technical support, training, and maintenance services under its own umbrella. This integration is important for high‑value aviation customers who require reliable, localized support for complex aircraft over the long term. Rather than relying on a third‑party partner, Pilatus can now directly control service quality and responsiveness in these critical areas.
3. Building on Long‑Standing Relationships
Air Alliance has been an authorized Pilatus sales and service center for over a decade. The acquisition formalizes and deepens that relationship, retaining existing leadership and staff while aligning goals with Pilatus’s broader strategic roadmap. Both companies have underscored a shared commitment to continued growth and customer satisfaction.
4. European Market Growth Potential
Despite global competition and broader economic challenges in aerospace, Pilatus has delivered substantial numbers of its PC‑12 and PC‑24 models worldwide — with Europe accounting for a significant portion of that base. Strengthening its operational footprint in Europe positions Pilatus to capture future demand from both private and governmental operators, including emerging military and public sector contracts.
Broader Context
This acquisition mirrors a trend among aircraft manufacturers toward ownership of key regional distributors and service networks. Rather than depending solely on independent partners, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) increasingly seek greater control over after‑sales support — a major factor in customer satisfaction and retention. Pilatus’s move also comes amid other strategic adjustments (such as earlier acquisitions of maintenance operations in the U.S.) that showcase its global growth ambitions.
What’s Next
Once regulatory approvals are finalized, Pilatus will integrate Air Alliance into its European operations. Customers in Germany and Austria can expect more direct engagement with the manufacturer, enhanced maintenance resources, and a consistent service framework aligned with Pilatus’s global standards.
Pilatus’s aircraft — particularly the PC‑12 and PC‑24 — continue to find demand across private, governmental, and specialized mission operators worldwide, making strong regional support networks increasingly important to the company’s long‑term competitive strategy.
