KONGSBERG Secures Major Belgian NASAMS Order and Dutch Counter-Drone Contract

AeroMorning – John Smith – September 29, 2026

Kongsberg, Norway — September 29, 2026 — KONGSBERG announced two new defence contracts highlighting growing European demand for air-defence and counter-drone capabilities:

Belgium NASAMS Order: A NOK 10 billion (approximately $1.04 billion) contract for NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) — a ground-based air-defence system developed by KONGSBERG and Raytheon that uses surface-to-air missiles, including AMRAAM and Sidewinder variants, to engage aerial threats such as aircraft, cruise missiles and drones.

Netherlands Counter-Drone Contract: An agreement with Oshkosh Defense Europe to supply PROTECTOR RS4 Remote Weapon Stations equipped with PROTECTOR CUAS (Counter-Unmanned Aerial System) — a modular, remotely operated, vehicle-mounted system designed to detect, track and neutralize drone threats.

Key Details of the Agreements

The Belgian-Dutch Procurement Arrangement: Belgium is acquiring 10 NASAMS systems as part of a defence cooperation arrangement with the Netherlands announced in July 2026. KONGSBERG signed the contract with the Dutch procurement authority rather than directly with Belgium. The Netherlands, which already operates NASAMS, is acting as the procurement channel on Belgium’s behalf, while the Belgian Air Force will be the end user.

Dutch Counter-Drone Deployment: The PROTECTOR CUAS systems for the Netherlands will be integrated onto Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) for the Royal Netherlands Armed Forces. KONGSBERG’s September 29 announcement does not specify the exact weapon or ammunition configuration selected for the Dutch system. The PROTECTOR RS4, however, is part of a widely deployed family of remote weapon stations already used by numerous NATO and allied forces.

Layered Air Defence: The contracts represent two complementary layers of modern air defence: NASAMS provides networked, missile-based protection against a broad range of aerial threats, while PROTECTOR CUAS provides a mobile, short-range counter-drone capability.
