Powering the Next Generation: GDHF Secures €125+ Million Financing to Accelerate Fleet Expansion
AeroMorning —John Smith – October 6
Dublin, Ireland – Building on its rapid expansion in the global rotorcraft sector, Dublin-headquartered GD Helicopter Finance (GDHF) announced a major milestone on October 1, 2026: a financing facility worth more than €125 million. Arranged by German banks Helaba and BayernLB, with backing from French export credit agency Bpifrance Assurance Export, the facility supports GDHF’s core business model: converting manufacturer order books into modern leased assets for operators worldwide. An initial portion of the facility was already drawn in September 2026 to finance a factory-new Airbus H160.
GDHF Fleet Overview: Orders, Deliveries & In-Service
GDHF bridges the gap between manufacturer production lines and operators seeking fleet renewal for demanding missions, including offshore energy, wind farms, search and rescue (SAR), and emergency medical services (EMS).
- Airbus H160
- Order Book / Strategy: Part of an initial 50-aircraft commitment.
- Delivered / In Service: 10 aircraft delivered by mid-2026, including deliveries to Chipsan Aviation in India and two H160s entering service with NHV Group in June 2026 for European offshore energy operations.
- Airbus H175
- Order Book / Strategy: 20 firm orders, following the conversion of 10 options in June 2025.
- Delivered / In Service: The first H175 was delivered in December 2024, with further deliveries backed by the latest €125+ million facility and scheduled for 2026–2027.
- Leonardo AW189
- Order Book / Strategy: 13 total commitments, comprising three initially contracted aircraft plus 10 under a November 2024 framework agreement, with deliveries planned between 2027 and 2029. Helaba and BayernLB have also committed to financing multiple new AW189s for delivery in 2027.
- Airbus H225
- Portfolio: Listed alongside the H160, H175 and AW189 in GDHF’s official fleet offering.
Global Helicopter Leasing Landscape: Competitors and Scale
While Dublin remains a major hub for aircraft and rotorcraft leasing, GDHF competes in an international market alongside established lessors with substantially larger portfolios:
- Milestone Aviation Group – United States / Ireland
- Ownership / Backing: U.S.-owned through AerCap, the world’s largest commercial aircraft lessor, headquartered in the United States.
- Scale: A global leader in helicopter leasing, managing a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of more than 300 helicopters deployed worldwide across offshore energy, SAR and EMS.
- LCI – Lease Corporation International – Ireland
- Ownership / Backing: Irish-headquartered and backed by the international Libra Group.
- Scale: A prominent global lessor with a modern fleet spanning commercial rotorcraft and fixed-wing assets, deploying substantial capital into multi-mission helicopter operations worldwide.
- SMFL Helicopters – SMFLH – Japan
- Ownership / Backing: Japanese-backed and part of Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL), one of Japan’s major financial leasing groups.
- Scale: A rapidly scaling international rotorcraft lessor using substantial multi-hundred-million-dollar cross-border debt structures to finance modern helicopter fleets.
Compared with multi-hundred-aircraft giants such as Milestone, GDHF remains an agile, fast-growing challenger, scaling its specialised portfolio through manufacturer commitments, leasing activity and structured, export-credit-backed financing.
