“Built in Alberta to protect Albertans”

Calgary Canada Feb. 17, 2026 –Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Minister Todd Loewen announce, in Calgary on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, an investment in wildfire response.

Alberta’s government has secured a contract with De Havilland Canada for five new, locally built waterbombers to keep Albertans and their communities safe from wildfires.

The contract includes the purchase of five De Havilland Canadair DHC‑515 waterbombers, marking a major step forward in strengthening the protection of communities and infrastructure during wildfire season. This $400‑million investment will not only significantly enhance Alberta’s wildfire response capacity but also support the creation of good local jobs. The first aircraft is expected to arrive by spring 2031.

Also in attendance were Brian Chafe, CEO, De Havilland Canada and Joseph Schow, Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration.
