Liebherr to provide next generation of flight control computers for Airbus

Liebherr-Aerospace was selected by Airbus to deliver flight control computers for its family of commercial aircraft. Those equipment are time critical platforms that host flight control applications developed and integrated by Airbus. They are part of the continuous evolution of the Airbus flight control system. Liebherr holds long-term experience in complex electronics, hardware and software solutions for flight control systems and landing gears. This culminates in developing a dedicated innovative solution, which satisfies Airbus requirements.

Toulouse (France), June 2024 – Two new integrated flight control computers for the A320 family will be developed as well as manufactured at Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH (Germany) and Liebherr-Electronics and Drives GmbH in Lindau (Germany). Both sites work closely on designing the innovative solution for the Airbus flight control system to be installed on Airbus aircraft. The awarded contract is the outcome of Liebherr’s clear focus on R&D for highly integrated solutions in the area of high performance and multicore processing control computers.

Liebherr´s flight control computers correspond to the highest safety requirements and bring an increased operational reliability. They provide support for future functionality and contribute to reducing pilot’s workload. Liebherr´s solution is a platform developed from a modular concept, that provides high computing performance and possibilities for future upgrades, adjustments, and additional functions to fit the overall customer’s needs. The Liebherr flight control computers will complement computers developed by Airbus to ensure dissimilarity and maximum safety.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by Airbus to provide flight control computers for Airbus. This program combines highly complex electronics and software design. The long-lasting cooperation between Airbus and Liebherr shows a strong trustful collaboration for future programs”, explains Dr. Klaus Schneider, Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS.

Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH is Liebherr’s center of competence for flight control systems, landing gears, gearboxes, electronics, and software. Liebherr Electronics and Drives GmbH is the center of competence for electronic hardware development and production. Together they provide the electronic system competence for the flight control computers out of one hand.
