Munich Airport and Janta Power pilot 3-dimension energy production solution

The « Airports for Innovation » (A4I) initiative, which consists of ten leading international airport operators, announced the five winners of its first innovation program for startups today. The young companies were asked to develop solutions on the topics of « seamless travel experience », « sustainable aviation », « smart luggage revolution » and « AI-powered airports ». GoodMaps won in the « Seamless Travel Experience » category. Janta Power succeeded in the « Sustainable Aviation » challenge, whereas the startup Pattern Labs was selected to pilot the « Smart Luggage Revolution » program. The two young companies Tomorrow.io and Ultralytics are going tackle the topic of « AI-powered Airports. » Between September 12 and October 28, 2024, a global open call was launched, resulting in 292 proposals from 283 different startups from 36 different countries. 25 finalists were selected and invited to pitch their project proposals in January 2025.

A kick-off event marks the start of the pilot phase as well as the strategic collaboration between the A4I members – Aena, Aeroporti di Roma, Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur, Athens International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Dubai Airports, Munich Airport, Narita International Airport, Oman Airports and Vancouver International Airport.

In the coming months, the winners have the opportunity to pilot and validate their solutions in the real airport environments across the A4I airport partners.

Munich Airport has decided in favor of a pilot project focusing on sustainable aviation. The U.S. startup Janta Power will test its three-dimensional energy production solution using vertical solar towers that maximize energy output while minimizing space requirements, at Munich Airport and at some other A4I member airports.
