- At the I/ITSEC exhibition in Orlando, Florida (USA), Thales unveils a new training capability designed to meet the evolving demands of modern battlefield environments, enabling easy integration of drones into live training simulation systems.
- This addition enhances training solutions by enabling more realistic and flexible exercises that reflect the complexity of current and future threats.
- Compatible with a wide range of drones, the new system covers multiple drone use cases, for both ‘friendly’ and ‘enemy’ drone scenarios.

Thales is a global leader in live training for collaborative engagements. Deployed in flagship Combat Training Centres such as CENZUB in France (for professional military use) and GAZ in Switzerland (which operates on a conscription model), Thales’ combat-proven training systems deliver robust and user-friendly capabilities for today’s armed forces. With the introduction of this new drone training capability, which can be seamlessly integrated into live training, Thales further demonstrates its ability to adapt to an ever-changing operational environment.
This new capability enables armed forces to train for both ‘friendly’ and malicious drone scenarios, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of operational readiness. The drone agnostic kit solution is compatible with drones in categories C0–C6 and A1–A3 (ranging from a few hundred grams to several dozen kilograms) and offers unparalleled flexibility for armed forces. Key features include:
- Highly immersive simulation: Each drone can be equipped with a kit that includes sensors and indicators to simulate the effects of drone neutralisation and provide real-time feedback on the drone’s status during training exercises.
- Operational modularity: Drones can be fitted with transmitters to simulate loitering munitions (self-detonation) or armed drones (virtual release of explosive devices).
- Data-driven training: All exercise data is automatically recorded for post-training debriefing and detailed analysis.
This new drone-training module highlights Thales’ ongoing commitment to providing the most effective solutions for military preparedness. It enhances the realism of training scenarios, while enabling soldiers to refine their skills in countering aerial threats (“Red Force”) and optimising drone use on the battlefield (“Blue Force”).
With this latest innovation, Thales strengthens its position at the forefront of training and simulation technologies, ensuring that forces are prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.
“Drones are playing an increasingly decisive role on the battlefield, and it is crucial to have training solutions that can accurately simulate these new threats. Thales’ new drone training capability offers an adaptable and reliable training experience, allowing military personnel to effectively prepare for engagements and confrontations with these devices. We are proud to support the armed forces by providing training solutions that are as close as possible to their operational realities.” Benoit Broudy, Vice President of Training & Simulation activities, Thales.
