Textron to Discontinue eAviation Division and Reassign Electric Aircraft Programs
By AeroMorning on October 21, 2025
On October 18, 2025 — Textron Inc. has announced plans to eliminate its eAviation division and integrate its electric-aircraft activities into existing business segments, as part of a broader internal reorganization set to take effect early next year.
The decision was formally disclosed in a Form 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 16, 2025. According to the filing, Textron will discontinue eAviation as a separate reporting segment effective January 4, 2026, redistributing its programs and employees across other divisions within the company, including Textron Aviation and Bell.
Textron created the eAviation segment in 2022 to consolidate its early-stage development of electric and hybrid-electric aircraft technologies, most notably through Pipistrel, the Slovenian light-aircraft manufacturer acquired by Textron that same year. The restructuring indicates a strategic shift toward embedding electric-aircraft research and production within the company’s established business lines, rather than managing them as a standalone entity.
Industry analysts suggest that integrating eAviation’s activities could streamline operations and align advanced-mobility initiatives more closely with Textron’s existing aircraft programs. FlightGlobal reported that the change “reflects a transition from exploratory R&D to applied product development within core business units.”
Textron has not announced any job reductions in connection with the change. The company emphasized that work on electric and hybrid-propulsion aircraft will continue under its existing brands.
The move comes amid a broader realignment of the advanced-air-mobility sector, as major aerospace manufacturers reassess timelines for certification and commercialization of electric aircraft in response to regulatory and market pressures.
