Teledyne FLIR, Turn vision into reality at Defence Day 2024

News actualites aeromorning

Military personnel visiting Defence Day 2024 on 15 October will be able to get up close and personal with intelligent sensing and threat detection technologies that expedite critical decisions and drive safe, efficient and successful missions.

Organised by Thermal Vision Research, an authorised supplier of Teledyne FLIR’s thermal imaging cameras, this unmissable event sets out how the latest technology advancements are pushing the boundaries of defence industry innovation.

Winning battles depends more than ever on advanced human-technology collaboration. At Defence Day 2024, visitors will discover how Teledyne FLIR’s pioneering solutions can enhance operational effectiveness and mission success. There will be cutting-edge demonstrations, insightful presentations, Q&A sessions and the opportunity to network with defence industry experts and peers.

Frontline decision-making in high-pressure situations is challenging, but the latest thermal imaging cameras help shoulder the burden. Everything gives off thermal energy; a so-called ‘heat signature’. When two adjacent objects have even subtly different heat signatures they show up clearly to a thermal sensor, regardless of lighting conditions. This allows thermal cameras to see in complete darkness or smoke-filled environments, making them ideal for use in combat situations.

Teledyne FLIR has been partnering with armed forces around the world for many years, helping the military to detect, assess and track targets. FLIR infrared cameras offer critical advantages for defence applications, such as high-speed frame rate for real-time data capture, and spatial resolution for greater detail and precise identification. In addition, spectral filters provide targeted imaging for enhanced detection. Among the event’s key topics will be finding resolution in a distant image, measuring at the speed of light and the challenges of infrared radiance measurement. Software, a critical component of any infrared camera, provides a further focus area.

Defence Day 2024 will take place in Salisbury, Wiltshire. After registration from 08:00 and introductions at 09:00, the morning session will feature a number of informative technology presentations involving both hardware and software, followed by interactive breakout sessions that deliver further understanding of these innovative devices. An open forum Q&A provides the lead-up to lunch.

Following a short coach transfer, the afternoon involves a number of exciting demonstrations, including test- house simulation of night vision systems and a number of practical sessions such as range science target tracking and high-speed imaging. A final Q&A will bring the event to a close around 17:00.
