Lufthansa Technik AG and Airbus Defence and Space have signed a contract that enables the purchase of an unlimited number of Lufthansa Technik’s Patient Transport Units Next Generation (PTU NG) – the optimum solution for transporting patients requiring intensive medical care and for medical evacuation missions (Medevac).

The initial aircraft type fitted with the PTU NG is the C295 with 4 fully equipped units. This first program started in May 2016 with a scheduled delivery in Q1 2017.

The PTU NG has already been integrated and installed in commercial Airbus A380 and several VIP aircraft. The unit combines a low system weight for quick conversions and outstanding robustness. Its modular design can be customized to the specific requirements of each individual customer with up to 13,000 liters of oxygen. For ultra-long-range medical flights, the standard PTU NG features a comfortable bed for the patient. The PTU NG could also easily be installed on any further Airbus aircraft types or those from other manufacturers.
