Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has won a framework contract by NAV CANADA to provide digital remote tower technology for air traffic services in some of the harshest environment conditions on the planet.
The multi-year programme contract was signed with Kongsberg Geospatial, an Ottawa-based wholly owned subsidiary of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Once completed, the programme will provide technology to replace selected traditional air traffic service towers across Canada with sensor data remoted into the planned digital hubs.
The Kongsberg Digital Towers system enhances situational awareness for the air traffic service personnel, through high quality sensor data, and deployed, well-proven technology. The system is in daily use in the current largest digital tower hub facility in Bodø, Norway, serving 15 airports across Norway in the Avinor NINOX program.
“We are proud to be working with NAV CANADA to deliver our digital towers solution to another international market. We look forward to working with our customer and partners to develop the next generation of aviation operations and safety,” said Kjetil Reiten Myhra, Executive Vice President, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
The initial digital facility within DAATS has been announced by NAV CANADA to serve the Kingston, Ontario Airport and will be used to refine and evaluate technology and operating procedures.
