GuideU Curved CustomFit receives Red Dot Award for high quality design

The jury has reached its verdict: In perfect timing for the Aircraft  Interiors Expo in Hamburg, the GuideU Curved CustomFit floor path  marking system has been honored with the prestigious Red Dot award  following several days’ evaluation of thousands of products from all  over the world. In the jury’s opinion, Lufthansa Technik AG succeeded in creating an outstanding design with GuideU Curved CustomFit, which has been honored by the expert panel for the Red Dot Award: Product  Design 2017 with the internationally coveted quality seal.

Curved CustomFit is the latest development in the market-leading  GuideU 1000 series. Not only can the fluorescent strips be chosen  from an extensive color range, they can likewise be matched to the  surface pattern of the installed floor. The floor path markings are  therefore practically invisible under normal lighting conditions.  Moreover, the light strips follow the curves in the cabin and can  thus be adapted to individual cabin designs.

“We are proud and overjoyed to have received this prestigious award,” says Torben Biehl, Head of Product Development for GuideU at  Lufthansa Technik. “It was always important to us to keep a close eye on the design of the cabin in addition to the pure functionality of  an emergency system. And it looks like we succeeded.”

Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award: “The  Red Dot winners are pursuing the right design strategy. They have  recognised that good design and economic success go hand in hand. The award by the critical Red Dot jury documents their high design  quality and is indicative of their successful design policy.”

The Essen-based international design competition “Red Dot Award:  Product Design” has firmly established its international importance.  A jury initially gathered for the first time more than 60 years ago  to evaluate the era’s best designs. Since then, an expert team has  awarded the quality seal for design and innovation excellence to  outstanding designs every year.

In 2017, the award organization likewise invited manufacturers and  designers around the globe to submit their products. A jury of around 40 people comprised of independent designers, design professors and  trade journalists tested, discussed and evaluated each individual  product and awarded the Honourable Mention for a well thought-out  detail solution, the Red Dot for design quality excellence and the  Red Dot: Best of the Best for trailblazing design. Overall, this  year’s competition received more than 5,500 submissions from 54  nations.

The crowning conclusion to the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017  will take place on 3 July 2017 in Essen.

Aircraft engineer Torben Biehl will be at the Aircraft Interiors Expo from 4 – 6 April at the Lufthansa Technik stand in hall 6, booth  6B80. This is also an opportunity to see this year’s Red Dot winner  up close.
