GKN Aerospace and Rolls-Royce extend 10-year USD multi-million agreement on inner core fairings

  • The agreement, valued in excess of USD $130 million, includes the manufacture of inner core fairings for the Trent 1000 and 84,000lb-thrust Trent XWB engine programs until 2026

GKN Aerospace and Rolls-Royce, one of the world’s leading producers of aero engines for large civil aircraft and corporate jets, formalized an agreement for the manufacturing of inner core fairings for the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 and 84,000lb-thrust Trent XWB engine programs through 2026.

The USD multi-million, 10-year program contract is another milestone in a long-term business relationship between GKN and Rolls-Royce that currently includes the company providing exotic metals and advanced complex structures for Trent engines. The contract will be fulfilled at the GKN Aerospace facility in Santa Ana, California, which also produces engine fairings, metallic honeycomb structures used in exhaust systems and shrouds for major commercial and military programs.

Lori Day, General Manager, GKN Aerospace Advanced Machined Structures & AMT comments: “We are extremely proud of our long-term relationship with Rolls-Royce and of our continued participation in the world-leading Trent engine family. We’ve been producing Trent engine inner core fairings for many years and thanks to the team’s continued commitment to quality, on-time delivery and customer focus, we have strengthened our business relationship for many more years to come.”

The light-weight innovative design of GKN’s titanium solutions utilizes a unique honeycomb design acting as a sound dampening mechanism that helps customers comply with sound regulations instilled at most airports.

GKN Aerospace has an extensive relationship with Rolls-Royce through GKN’s engine systems business. In 2016, GKN Aerospace announced an extension of a risk and revenue sharing partnership to supply high performance intermediate compressor cases throughout the life of the Trent XWB-84 engine program.
