FLIGHTS INCREASE BY A QUARTER SINCE 2022, WITH CAPACITY NOW OVER 90% OF PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS

21st March, 2023 – IBA, the leading aviation market intelligence and consultancy company, has today published its monthly Aviation Industry Barometer for February 2023. Data from IBA’s Insight intelligence platform shows a 24% year-on-year increase in passenger flights from February 2022, with 2.3 million commercial passenger flights recorded in February 2023.

IBA’s Aviation Industry Barometer for February 2023 also demonstrated:

• Monthly global passenger capacity reached 91% pre-pandemic ASKs in February 2023 – an improvement of +1% compared to January 2023.

• Carriers from North America, Latin America and Africa have already reached pre-pandemic ASKs.

• European and Middle East operators are on average currently trending at the global average at 91%, while Asia-Pacific operators have now reached 80% of 2019 ASKs.

• Overall, there were approximately 2.30 million commercial passenger flights in February 2023, compared to 2.47 million in January 2023, while 1.85 million flights were recorded in February 2022.

• There were 74 commercial aircraft deliveries in February 2023, representing a month-on-month and year-on-year gain of 16% and 6% respectively.

• Only one Boeing 787 Dreamliner was delivered last month as the FAA halted deliveries for the aircraft on February 23rd due to an “analysis error” that arose with the program. The issue has since been resolved, and 787 deliveries are expected to bounce back in March as Boeing works towards a delivery target of 70-80 Dreamliners in 2023.
