On 10 November 2025, the Lao government officially confirmed that China’s COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China) will acquire a 49 percent stake in Lao Airlines, while the Lao government will retain a 51 percent majority shareholding.
The move is part of the Lao government’s wider reform agenda of key state‑owned enterprises, with Lao Airlines identified as one of four strategic enterprises undergoing urgent restructuring. The acquisition by COMAC is expected to provide investment, fleet renewal (including COMAC’s C909 regional jet already operating domestically), and expertise in operations management. However, concerns have been urged in the National Assembly regarding preserving strategic sovereignty and state control of the national carrier.
