Taipei, 26 November 2025 — China Airlines today announced that its Board of Directors has formally approved a major widebody fleet renewal plan, as disclosed in a filing submitted to the Taiwan Stock Exchange on 26 November 2025.

Under this newly approved plan, China Airlines will acquire 18 next-generation widebody aircraft, consisting of:

  • 5 Airbus A350-1000
  • 5 Boeing 777-9
  • 4 Boeing 777-8F
  • 2 Boeing 777F

This strategic investment — valued at up to USD 7.85 billion, including aircraft and spare engines — is intended to modernize the airline’s fleet, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce competitiveness across its long-haul passenger and cargo networks.

As part of the modernization strategy, China Airlines will initiate the phased retirement of its Boeing 747-400F freighter fleet. The aircraft will be progressively withdrawn from service as the new-generation freighters are introduced.

China Airlines stated that the fleet renewal plan will:

  • significantly improve fuel efficiency,
  • reduce environmental impact,
  • expand cargo capacity, and
  • support the airline’s long-term development strategy over the coming decade.

The company added that the combination of Airbus A350-1000 passenger aircraft and Boeing 777X/777F freighters represents an optimal balance for future network growth and operational resilience.
