A private business jet crashed on Monday into an automotive warehouse near Licenciado Adolfo López Mateos International Airport (TLC) in Toluca, Mexico, killing all 10 people on board, authorities confirmed.
The aircraft, a Cessna 650 Citation II registered XA-PRO, had departed Acapulco-Álvarez International Airport (ACA) at approximately 11:55 a.m. local time and was inbound to Toluca when the crew reported a missed approach. The jet had been cleared to land on Runway 33 but radioed that it was going around shortly before the accident.
According to the Aviation Safety Network, the aircraft subsequently descended while entering a left-hand turn and crashed at around 12:30 p.m., approximately 2.7 kilometers from the airport. The jet impacted an automotive warehouse in an industrial area, triggering a large post-crash fire.
Emergency responders battled the blaze for more than two hours, while authorities evacuated four surrounding blocks due to the presence of nearby fuel and gas tanks, local media reported.
All 10 occupants, including three children under the age of 10, were killed in the accident, according to multiple reports.
Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator Adrián Hernández stated that preliminary information suggests the pilot may have been attempting an emergency landing on a nearby soccer field prior to the collision. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown.
Investigators are focusing on the possibility of a mechanical or engine-related issue, though officials emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages. The aircraft wreckage has been secured, and Mexico’s aviation authorities are expected to lead the formal inquiry.
No casualties were reported on the ground.
