Newspace Summit 2025

Newspace Summit 2025: Bringing Together the Entire Space Community in Paris to Build a French and European Strategy Aligned with Economic, Technological, and Geopolitical Challenges

Paris – July 1, 2025 – On July 8–9, 2025, the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie – Centre des Congrès de la Villette will host the 4th edition of the Newspace Summit, a major event in France bringing together the entire space ecosystem—industry leaders, startups, institutions, civilian and military actors—for two days of debate on the major transformations impacting the space sector.

As global space power dynamics are being redefined, the Summit has become the go-to forum for discussing national strategy and European cooperation.

A New Era in Space: Applications, Economy, Sovereignty

Newspace is ushering in a new phase of space development—more dynamic, more entrepreneurial, and more economically impactful. The 2025 edition will offer a broad perspective on the space sector, which extends far beyond science and technology to include:

● New applications (Earth observation, connectivity, climate, agriculture, defense…)

● Evolving business models (constellations, embedded services, microlaunchers)

● Industrial ecosystem development (supply chains, technological sovereignty, funding)

● Rising geopolitical and regulatory issues (orbital management, European coordination, strategic autonomy)

● Major technological shifts, such as “Direct to Device,” a new paradigm for directly connecting devices to space without intermediary infrastructure

Building European Space Autonomy: A Shared Imperative

In his speech on June 20, 2025, at the Paris Air Show (SIAE), French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the urgent need for strengthened European cooperation in space. He stated:

“We need a Europe that chooses Europe—one that embraces European preference, avoids self-sabotage, trusts its industrial players and researchers, and makes bold, collective choices. We may not win every battle, but we will win them as Europeans. The real risk is losing them all if we fail to cooperate. That’s why a strong, united voice is absolutely essential.”

This European preference—supporting European actors in both public and private markets—will be central to the event’s conversations, focusing on industrial synergy, institutional coordination, and collective vision.

The presence of GIFAS, the French aerospace industry association, underscores the commitment of major industry players. Alongside CNES, startups like Latitude, SMEs like Anywaves, corporations like Orange and Eutelsat, and European stakeholders such as ASD-Eurospace, the Summit brings together a diverse ecosystem in a spirit of dialogue and cross-sector collaboration.

Space & Defense: A Strategic Convergence

Rising geopolitical tensions have highlighted the critical importance of space infrastructure.

Several sessions will focus on the intersection of space capabilities and defense needs:

● Protecting low Earth orbit satellites

● Developing sovereign assets

● Strengthening civil-defense coordination

Confirmed speakers on these topics include:

● General Philippe Adam, Commander of French Space Command

● Eva Portier, Deputy Space Director at the French Armaments Directorate (DGA), Secretary General of the Defense Space Committee

● Jessy Asmar, Head of Satellite Factory, Orange

A Rich and Diverse Program The Summit will feature leading voices from across the global space community, each addressing key strategic topics:

● François Jacq (CNES) – France’s strategic projection capabilities in space

● Ane Aanesland (ThrustMe) – Foreign trade and diplomacy

● Lauren Lyons (VDot) – The U.S. model and key success factors

● Cheng Wang (China Space Foundation) – China’s Newspace strategy and policy

Special highlight: Patrick Martin, President of MEDEF (France’s largest business federation), will speak publicly for the first time on space-related issues, closing Day 1—a major signal of the sector’s growing relevance for businesses of all kinds.

Another program highlight: the presentation of 12 new proposals from the updated “Ambition NewSpace 2027” report, by Lucien Rapp, professor at the University of Toulouse-Capitole and scientific director of the Sirius Chair.

High-Level Political Recognition

This fourth edition will be inaugurated by Marc Ferracci, Minister for Industry and Energy, alongside Members of Parliament Corinne Vignon and Christine Arrighi, co-chairs of the Aerospace & Space Parliamentary Group. Their attendance reflects the sector’s increasing weight in national industrial policy and the importance of fostering dialogue between lawmakers, institutions, businesses, and entrepreneurs.

A Collective Project Serving the Public Interest

The Summit is organized by a representative coalition of the French space ecosystem, brought together to foster dialogue and shared thinking. Alliance NewSpace France, GIFAS, and CNES all support the event, reinforcing its national and European relevance.

The 2025 edition continues the momentum from 2023, when the group published the first-ever national report on Newspace. This year’s edition will pursue the same ambition: to generate actionable proposals to inform both public and private decision-making at all levels.
