WIZZ AIR CARRIED 3.62 MILLION PASSENGERS, AN INCREASE OF 542% YEAR-ON-YEAR
Geneva, 3 May 2022: Wizz Air Holdings Plc (“Wizz Air”), the fastest-growing and most sustainable European airline, today announces passenger and CO2 emission statistics for April 2022.
In April 2022, Wizz Air carried 3,624,322 passengers, representing a 542% increase compared to April 2021, at a load factor of 83.4%.
Wizz Air continued to grow its network and improve its customer offering in April, including:
- Wizz Air announced acquisition of additional two daily slot pairs from Vueling at London Luton Airport. The added slots will increase frequencies on existing routes to Romania and Poland. This expansion adds 167,000 seats, reinforcing Wizz Air’s position as the largest operator at London Luton Airport with over 5.6 million seats in total for the summer season.
- Wizz Air launched its new base at Cardiff Airport with nine new routes to destinations across Europe and beyond. The new base is Wizz Air’s fourth in the UK. Its Welsh customers and those from South West England will be able to take advantage of ultra-low fares on direct flights to a range of sunshine destinations from Spain to Greece and Egypt.
- Wizz Air announced new routes across its network originating from Italy, United Kingdom, Romania, Poland, Lithuania and Bosnia and Hercegovina. New routes offer passengers exciting destinations ranging from Greece, Germany, Denmark and Croatia.
- Wizz Air continuously operates amongst the lowest CO2 emissions per passenger/km amongst all competitor airlines, with 61.8 grams per passenger/km for the rolling 12 months to 30 April 2022. For the month of April, CO2 emissions in grams per passenger/km were 24.7% lower compared to same month last year, as we witness an improvement in load factors over same time.
